Digital Learning Zone
OVERVIEW
The Digital Learning Zone is a personalized global learning platform serving as a central access point for all of Marriott International's learning content. The DLZ helps all global Marriott associates grow professionally and personally. The site is accessible in 19 languages and offers content on demand across multi-channel devices including smartphones, tablets and computers. Robust reporting and tracking capabilities allow managers to easily monitor progress and prioritize continued development for their teams. This is a product designed for global learning and increased employee engagement.
Understanding The Problem
Learning at Marriott for many years was divided into different platforms and tools making learning complex for associates. The process was also very confusing for managers, both on-property and at headquarters, to keep track of associates' training progress. Overall, there was no one place that all required training or desired learning course was accessible. Creating frustration across the board, learning became less fun and engaging. In the world's largest travel company, it was essential that learning platforms were innovative and able to meet the needs of a diverse brand portfolio and user groups.
Design Process
There was no one place for associates to go to for all their required or recommended training. This blank slate allowed for big opportunity as an individual designer and team contributor on a small start-up like team of 5. Throughout this process, I was responsible for creating the initial user flows, product strategy, and wireframes. This gave the basic model for how user research scripts would be written and used. During the design and implementation of the DLZ, I was the lead UX designer for interaction and visual design, prototyping and testing, strategic direction for QA and functional product development questions. In collaboration with other team members, I provided the high-fidelity prototypes for all user research testing and product marketing videos for senior leadership to understand how design implementation would occur. As a key player, I also led the organization and creation of our first comprehensive design library which was essential in execution of branded UI elements for all 30 brands.

Solution & Success Measure
The Digital Learning Zone was launched in January 2020 and had over 2 Million+ page views and 78K new users on a daily basis within the first month. DLZ won the Marriott International Human Resources 2019 Innovation Award. Today, DLZ is a successfully implemented and highly usable working platform at Marriott International for all associates. This personalized learning platform is now the central access point for all Marriott training and learning content. It meets the needs of both associates and managers, with robust and detailed reporting and tracking capabilities that allow managers to easily monitor progress and prioritize continued learning and development.
